Vector-Borne Pathogens in Ticks and Fleas of Client-Owned Dogs in Metro Manila, Philippines

Rhipicephalus sanguineus s.l. and Ctenocephalides felis are considered the most prevalent ectoparasites of dogs in Philippines. Vector-borne pathogens (VBPs) these pose health risks to humans animals. This study aimed confirm morphological molecular identity tick flea species parasitising Metro Manila (Philippines) molecularly investigate possible presence Bartonella spp., Rickettsia Ehrlichia canis, Anaplasma platys DNA. Ticks (n = 58) fleas 52) on from three veterinary clinics were collected identified morphologically via amplification sequencing cytochrome c oxidase I (cox1). Aliquots ectoparasite DNA underwent real-time polymerase chain reaction (qPCR) screening for VBPs.
